  • Camp Amalinda is a widerness of granite, an African inspired refuge, where world-class facilities combine with the spiritual energy, allure and unique beauty, for which the Matobo Hills is so celebrated.  Camp Amalinda's accomodation consists of nine thatched chalets (including two suites), cavernous structures that are built into and beside the huge granite boulders.  The novelty of sleeping (quite literally) between the rocks doesn't wear off quickly.  Each chalet at Camp Amalinda is individually designed and decorated, but all incorporate the surrounding rock. The bedrooms have large open windows with roll-down blinds.  Polished concrete floors run throughout, dotted with various rugs and matts to give a softer touch.  The beds are substantial and large mosquito nets come as standard.  In some rooms, wooden storage units from a bygone era are found at the foot of the bed, in others a large ottoman takes its place. Camp Amalinda is a highly original camp which has been built into these hills with imagination and flare.  It offers intelligent historical/cultural activities, relatively easy rhino-tracking, and some gentle safari activities in this very beautiful park.

  • Here are a few special highlights found in Matobo Hills that we've picked out :-

    • Both Black and White Rhinos can be regularly seen and approaching rhinos on foot is a very special experience
    • Black Eagles and Leopards are found in these hills in very high concentrations
    • The hills are a melting pot of culture and history that spans to bushmen times, the Matabele kingdom and the arrival of Birtish Imperialism

  • The following guests had this to say about their stay at Camp Amalinda :-

    Robert Vullinghs from the Netherlands
"What an amazing place!  The lodges are beautifully decorated and the whole place has a tranquil atmosphere.  Staff is very professional.  We will come back."

     Alan Houmann from London, UK
"The camp's setting is stunning, with views over the Matopos Hills and a nearby waterhole, which had frequent visitors.  The rooms - large traditional huts set in among the rocks - are very luxurious"

     Jean Pierre from Zurich, Switzerland
"The camp's guide was highly knowledgeable and besides learning all about the Rhinos (amazing animals!!) he taught us all about the different flora and indigenous plants. A tour with him is a MUST."

    Katherine from Washington DC, USA
"Spectacular architecture, outstanding guides and a one of kind landscape. I fear no review can do justice to the Alice in Wonderland/Fred Flinstone magic that is Amalinda, nor to the spectacular stretches of wild granite in which it lies or the warm, enthusiastic people that run the place"

    Rebecca from San Diego, California
The landscape and geography here is completely different and the experience is less about animals, other than rhinos, and more about bushman cave paintings and Zimbabwe history, particularly the Cecil Rhodes era.
