MALAWI

Malawi is often described as the ‘Warm Heart of Africa’ and has so much to offer; wildlife, culture, adventure, scenery, and of course the third largest lake in Africa.

Lake Malawi, also known as “The Lake of Stars”, is home to more species of fish than any other lake and is one of the deepest lakes in the world. This vast “inland sea” of freshwater is fringed with gold sand beaches, brilliant blue waters, rocky shores, forested slopes, lagoons and 13 islands. Guests can enjoy any activities including snorkelling, scuba diving, sailing, water skiing, kayaking, dhow boat cruises and so much more.

Lilongwe, sometimes referred to as the green city because of its abundance of trees and well tendered gardens, is not your typical African capital. It is divided into 2 parts with New Town (to the North) having smart hotels, embassies and offices and Old Town (to the South) which has more leisurely attractions like cafes, restaurants and markets. Between these 2 hubs lies The Lilongwe Nature Sanctuary which is a wildlife rescue and rehabilitation centre.

Liwonde National Park offers some of the best game viewing opportunities in Malawi. It was taken under management by African Parks in 2015 and has been home to some of the most incredible wildlife translocations, reintroductions, and transformations which has seen predators restored to the park for the first time in two decades. Guests can also expect to see leopards, a variety of antelope, hyena, occasionally the black rhino, incredible birdlife and a wonderful cultural experience can also be enjoyed.

Majete Wildlife Reserve has an amazing success story of recovery and restoration. It was one of the first parks to enter the portfolio of African Parks in 2003. Since then the reintroduction of species and ongoing management of the park has turned into a wildlife sanctuary that today is flourishing, so much so that wildlife is being moved to populate other parks and private reserves within the country.
